Plácido Fernández graduated in Computer Science and Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in 2013. After that he joined Thales for an internship for a year, developing validation software for rail signal systems. He returned to Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and obtained a MSc in Software Engineering, making his thesis using GPGPU to accelerate a software synthesizer processing.
He then joined GMV Space & Defence, working in the Flight Dynamics and Operations department where he helped to develop one of their software products. After a year and a half, he joined CERN as a doctoral student at the LHCb experiment, where he is working on particle tracking algorithms for multi-core and many-core hardware platforms.
